Update On International Surrogacy Legislation

Update on legislation for international surrogacy and retrospective pathways to parenthood for children born through both domestic and international surrogacy.

We really welcomed the clarification last week from Minister for Justice, Helen McEntee, that the Government are planning to amend the Assisted Human Reproduction Bill to create “legal pathways” for parents of children born through international surrogacy. The Minister said the Oireachtas Committee Report has set out “ethical, sensible and necessary steps” for parents through surrogacy. This reassurance from the Minister that this is a priority for the Government, gave great hope to parents through surrogacy and intended parents pursuing their surrogacy journeys.
